Game of the Week - November 15th - November 21st, 2010

Metamora Redbirds Vs. Rochester Rockets
November 20, 2010 - Rochester, IL

Above, Metamora's Beau Geier (12) and Andrew Jones (45) stop a Rocket running back in third quarter action. The Redbirds struggled against the host Rochester Rockets in the 4A semi-final Saturday and were defeated 50-17 to close out their season with an 11-2 record and the Mid-Illini Conference championship.  The Rockets will face Rock Island Alleman next Friday in Champaign for the 4A title.

Mark McDaniels (22) and Blake Mason (44), hidden in the above photo, tackle Rochester's Colton Glazebrook (27) in fourth quarter action.  Glazebrook carried the ball 19 times for 198 yards, but in the end, it was the Rockets' air attack that gave them the edge.  Quarterback Wes Lunt was 13-19 with no interceptions for 257 yards to give the Rockets the win.

It was too little too late when Michael Fay (15) ran three yards for a touchdown with 3:46 left in the game giving the Redbirds 17 to the Rockets 50, which would be the final score in Saturday's semi-final 4A contest in Rochester.  Fay led Metamora's rushing with 122 yards with Charlie Nowotnik contributing 117 yards.  Last year, the Redbirds defeated the Rockets in Metamora in the semi-final and went on to win the class 4A title.

Game of the Week - November 8th - November 14th, 2010

Metamora Redbirds Vs. Pontiac Indians
November 13, 2010 - Pontiac, IL

Metamora's Charlie Nowotnik (34) scores on a two yard run with 1:56 left in the second quarter to give the Redbirds a 14-0 lead at the half. In another dominating performance, Metamora defeated the Pontiac Indians 34-7 to move on to a semi-final match-up hosted by the Rochester Rockets next Saturday to determine who will play in the class 4A final in Champaign on Friday, November 26th at Memorial Stadium.

Michael Fay (15), in the above photo, scores with 8:18 left in the third quarter for a 21-0 Redbird advantage over the Indians.   Fay led the Redbirds' rushing with 110 yards, followed by David Tracy with 109 yards.  Metamora's win over Pontiac improved their record to 11-1 and ended the Indians play-off run with an 11-1 record for the season.

Brett McKinney (21) is shown above on the receiving end of a Michael Fay pass for a 41 yard touchdown with 3:06 left in the game and a 34-7 lead that would stand to the final horn.   McKinney grabbed three passes for 52 yards of Fay's 85 total passing yards with no interceptions.  Metamora's stingy defense held the Indians to 148 total yards and one touchdown on a Peter Martin pass to Christian McBreath.

Metamora Redbirds Vs. Mount Zion Braves
November 6, 2010 - Metamora, IL

Metamora's Michael Fay (15), above, scores on a three yard touchdown run in the second quarter.  Fay went over 1,000 yards in total offense for the season and over 6,000 yards in total offense for his career before the close of the first half in the Redbird's 48-14 playoff victory over the Mt. Zion Braves on Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Jones (45) tackles Joe Butler (22) in the above photo.  The Redbirds will travel to Pontiac to face the undefeated Cornbelt Conference champion Pontiac Indians next Saturday at 1:30 PM in the IHSA Class 4A quarterfinals.

David Tracy (46) heads for the end zone on a 56 yard run with 1:46 left in the first half to give Metamora a 28-7 lead at the half.   Tracy had 85 yards in three carries following Michael Fay's 142 rushing yards and 80 yards in the air.  Tracy picked up a Braves fumble and returned it 36 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Game of the Week - October 25th - October 31st, 2010
Metamora Redbirds Vs. Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs
October 30, 2010 - Metamora, IL

Metamora's Jake Ferguson (32), above, scores on a 19 yard run with 9:54 left in the first quarter to give the Redbirds a 41-6 lead over the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs in the first round of the class 4A playoffs.  Host Metamora defeated the Bulldogs 54-26 at Malone field in Metamora on Saturday afternoon. The Redbirds rolled up 454 yards on the ground and 40 yards in the air in their win.

Colton Willett (28) carries the ball in second quarter action.  Willett scored on a 20 yard run and carried for 57 yards.   Jake Ferguson led the Redbirds' rushing with 12 carries for 105 yards.  Metamora (9-1) will host Mt. Zion (9-1) next Saturday in round two of the playoffs.  Five different Redbirds crossed the goal line and they led 54-13 at the half.

Trouble started early for the Bulldogs when Tom Bieneman (11), above, stripped Travis Hill (2) on the opening kick-off return.  The Redbirds recovered the loose ball which led to a David Tracy score 18 seconds into the contest. The Bulldogs answered with 6, but Metamora scored four more times in the quarter and never looked back.

Morton Potters Vs. East Peoria Raiders
October 22, 2010 - Morton, IL

Morton's tight end, Jed Lacy (8) in the above photo, heads for the end zone for the Potter's sixth unanswered score with 6:13 remaining in the first half.  D.J. Zahn led Morton's rushing with 7 carries for 137 yards.  Morton closed out the regular season with a 49-0 win over the East Peoria Raiders.

With starting quarterback Andrew Wallace sidelined with a concussion, Adam Sommer (88), above, stood in as quarterback for the Raiders.  Leading East Peoria's rushing was Michael Thompson with 51 yards.  The 49-0 loss to the Potters ended the Raider's season.

Game of the Week - October 11th - October 17th, 2010

Metamora Redbirds Vs. Washington Panthers
October 15, 2010 - Metamora, IL

Metamora Redbird's quarterback Michael Fay (15), above, is tripped up by Washington's Dashon Sinclair (10).  Fay led the Redbird's rushing with 103 yards in 31 carries.  Fay scored two touchdowns in Metamora's 36-30 win over Washington to clinch the Mid-Illini Conference title Friday night in Metamora.  The Redbirds (6-0,7-1) will host Limestone (3-3,4-4) to wrap up conference play.

Charlie Nowotnik (34), Metamora Redbird's running back, is tackled by Kyle Dockery (11) and Dylan Reel (3) in the above photo. The Redbirds struck first scoring on a 71 yard pass from Fay to Brett McKinney 46 seconds into the contest and led 22-8 at the half.   Washington (4-2,5-3) finishes up conference play meeting up with Canton in Washington.

With 35.1 seconds left in the first half, Washington quarterback Isaac Fisher (7) scored on a four yard run and completed a two point conversion with a pass to Cameron Johnson to trail Metamora 22-8 at the half.  The Panthers opened the second half with two quick scores to tie the game at 22 all, but were plagued by turnovers and lost 36-30 giving Metamora the Mid-Illini Conference championship.

Game of the Week - October 4th - October 10th, 2010

Morton Potters Vs. Metamora Redbirds
October 8, 2010 - Morton, IL

Metamora Redbird's running back Charlie Nowotnik (34), above, scores on a ten yard run with 27 seconds remaining in the first half to tie the Morton Potters at 14 all Friday night in Morton. Metamora won the game 34-17 to take sole possession of the Mid-Illini Conference lead dropping the Potters to third place.   Nowotnik lead Morton's rushing with 122 yards in 24 carries.  Redbird's kicker Brennen VanMieghem kicked four extra points to set a new Illinois high school record for total points at 292.

Tristan Popadziuk (42) scores from the two yard line with 4:43 in the second quarter to give the Morton Potters a 14-7 lead over the Metamora Redbirds.  Popadziuk rushed for 102 yards in 16 carries. D. J. Zahn lead the Potter's ground game with 112 yards in 20 carries. Metamora (5-0,6-1) will host the Washington Panthers (4-1,5-2) next Friday night in a match up that could decide the Mid-Illini Conference champion.  Morton (3-2, 5-2) travel to Canton.

Game of the Week - September 27th - October 3rd, 2010

Washington Panthers Vs. Morton Potters
October 1, 2010 - Washington, IL

Tristan Popadziuk (42), shown above, carried the ball 34 times for 182 yards in the Morton Potters 23-12 win over Mid-Illini Conference rival Washington on the Panther's home turf. Morton trailed 12-0 at the half and scored 23 unanswered points in the second half to move into a three-way tie for second in the conference behind the Metamora Redbirds.  Morton's record is 3-1 in the conference and 5-1 overall.  Washington fell to 3-1 in the conference and 4-2 overall.

The Panther's defense gave up 23 second half points to the Potters in their first conference loss of the season.  Dylan Reel (3), in the above photo, led Washington's running game with 129 yards in 18 carries.   Isaac Fisher was 5 of 12 for 26 yards, but his three interceptions were the undoing of the Panthers.  Washington will host Limestone (3-1,4-2) in week seven and Morton will take on conference leader Metamora (4-0, 5-1) in Morton hoping to grab a share of the conference lead.

Game of the Week - September 20th - 26th, 2010

East Peoria Raiders Vs. Canton Little Giants
September 25, 2010 - East Peoria, IL

Justin Beamer (21) breaks up a Jake Chenoweth pass intended for Canton wide receiver Matt Franzoni (26) in the East Peoria Raider's 41-26 homecoming victory over the Canton Little Giants in East Peoria on Saturday.  Raider's quarterback, Andrew Wallace passed for 100 yards and led East Peoria's rushing with 156 yards.

Raider running back Michael Thompson (28) is shown above carrying the ball on one of his five rushes for 129 yards in East Peoria's 41-26 victory over the Canton Little Giants at the Raider's  homecoming Saturday.   East Peoria got into the win column for the season and is 1-2 in the Mid-Illini Conference.  They will face the Limestone Rockets next week at Bartonville.

Washington Panthers Vs. Pekin Dragons

Washington's Ryan Grebner (22), shown above returning a Pekin kick-off, led the Panthers in pass receptions with 9 for 118 yards.   Dylan Reel led Washington's rushing with 13 rushes for 137 yards in the Panther's 44-14 win over the Pekin Dragons.

In the above photo, Washington's wide receiver Dakota Bullard (9) is upended by Pekin's defensive back, Kyle McKenna (13) in the Panthers 44-14 victory over the Dragons.  Bullard caught six passes for 38 yards.  Panther quarterback Isaac Fisher was 24 of 32 with one interception for 301 yards.  The victory gave Washington a 3-0 Mid-Illini Conference record and ties them with the Metamora Redbirds for the conference lead. Overall, the Panthers are 4-1. Washington will host third place Morton (2-1,4-1) next Friday in a key Mid-Illini week six match-up.

Game of the Week - September 13th - 19th, 2010

Washington Panthers Vs. Dunlap Eagles
September 17, 2010 - Washington, IL

Eagles' quarterback Logan Schrader (10) passed for 186 yards (12-36-3) and rushed for 21 yards in Dunlap's 27-34 loss to the Panthers in Washington on Friday night.  Nicholas Mangieri (25) collected 7 of Schrader's passes for 162 yards.  The loss left the Eagles with a 1-1 record in the Mid-Illini Conference, 3-1 overall.  The will travel to Metamora next Friday.

Dashon Sinclair (10) intercepted Logan Schrader and returned the ball to the Eagle's eight yard line in the above photo.  Sinclair picked up 40 yards on the receiving end of two of Isaac Fisher's 18 completions for a total of 216 yards.  Dylan Reel led the Panther's ground attack with 21 rushes for 70 yards in Washington's 34-27 victory over the Eagles.   The Panthers travel to Pekin next Friday.

Game of the Week - September 6th - 12th, 2010

East Peoria Raiders Vs. Washington Panthers
September 10, 2010 - East Peoria, IL

Panther's running back Dylan Reel (3) ran for six touchdowns in 27 rushes for 322 yards in Washington's 49-0 victory over the East Peoria Raiders in their Mid-Illini Conference opener at Clatt Field in East Peoria.  The Panthers racked up 410 yards of total offense in a game shortened by threatening weather.  Washington will host the Dunlap Eagles in week four.

The East Peoria Raider's quarterback Andrew Wallace (17) hands off to Michael Thompson (28) in their 49-0 loss to the Washington Panthers Friday night in East Peoria.  The Raider's fielded a young team that could only manage 39 yards of total offense and two first downs in a game called due to weather with 4:15 to play.
